# How to use AI in Wassuply with your own API key Source: https://wassuply.com/docs/ai-features/ Updated: 2026-10-30 · Wassuply 1.0.4 for Windows and macOS > Wassuply's AI features run on your own API key for Claude, ChatGPT or DeepSeek, added in Settings → AI Consultant. They draft outreach scripts with the AI Consultant, write a separate first message for each contact, turn a message into spintax and improve drafts. Requests go straight from your computer to the provider you choose, which bills you directly. Warm-up chats are never AI-written. In the app: Sidebar → Outreach → AI Consultant ## Key facts - Wassuply's AI features work with three providers through your own API key: Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI) and DeepSeek. - Unless you pick another model, Wassuply uses claude-sonnet-5 for Claude, gpt-4o-mini for ChatGPT and deepseek-chat for DeepSeek. - Wassuply sends AI requests directly from your computer to the provider you chose, not through Wassuply's servers, and the provider bills you for the usage. - For an AI-personalised message, Wassuply sends the provider your prompt plus the contact's name, company, job title, website, notes, custom1 and custom2 when filled in, but never the phone number. - Wassuply generates AI-personalised messages 3 contacts at a time before sending starts, and will not launch the campaign until every contact has a message. - The Wassuply contact research option reasons only from the details you imported; it does not browse the web. - Wassuply warm-up chats come from built-in chat packs or your own lines and are never written by AI. ## What AI features does Wassuply have? Wassuply has four AI writing tools that use your own text-AI key, plus AI voice notes that use a separate ElevenLabs key. | Feature | Where | What it does | | --- | --- | --- | | AI Consultant | Outreach → AI Consultant | Writes a strategy and three outreach scripts from a short business brief | | AI-personalized messages | Message type in the campaign wizard, generated at Review & Launch | Writes a different first message for each contact | | Add spintax | Campaign wizard, Script or Message step | Rewrites your message into spintax variations | | Improve | Campaign wizard, Script or Message step | Rewrites a draft shorter, warmer, less salesy or cleaner | | AI voice notes | Voice note message type and Voice Library | Speaks a script per contact with ElevenLabs, see [voice notes](https://wassuply.com/docs/voice-notes/) | AI is optional. Every campaign can run on text you write yourself, and warm-up never uses AI. ## How do I add my AI key? Paste an API key for one provider in **Settings → AI Consultant**, check it, pick a model and save. **How to add an AI provider key in Wassuply** 1. **Open the settings**: Go to **Settings → AI Consultant**. 2. **Pick a provider**: Click **Claude (Anthropic)**, **ChatGPT (OpenAI)** or **DeepSeek**. Claude is selected by default. 3. **Paste the key**: Paste your key into the API key field. **Get an API key** opens the provider's key page. 4. **Load models**: Click **Verify key & load models**. A working key lists the models it can use; choose one under **Model**. 5. **Save**: Click **Save Changes** at the bottom of the page. > **Tip:** A ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro chat subscription is not an API key. API access is set up and billed separately on the provider's developer platform. Each provider's key is saved separately, so switching provider and back keeps your keys, but only the selected provider is used. For ChatGPT keys, models that cannot chat, such as embedding, audio and image models, are hidden from the list. ## Which models does Wassuply use? Wassuply uses the model you pick in **Model**, or this default if you never pick one: | Provider | Default model | | --- | --- | | Claude (Anthropic) | claude-sonnet-5 | | ChatGPT (OpenAI) | gpt-4o-mini | | DeepSeek | deepseek-chat | Each request asks for at most 2,000 tokens of output and times out after 60 seconds. If a provider retires or renames a model, Wassuply shows an error asking you to pick another one in **Settings → AI Consultant**, where **Verify key & load models** reloads the choices. ## How does the AI Consultant work? The AI Consultant turns a short form about your business and ideal customer into a strategy and three ready-to-send WhatsApp scripts. - **Business name**: Optional. - **Target industry / niche**: Optional, for example e-commerce or real estate. - **What do you sell / your offer**: Required. - **Target company size**: Solo / freelancer, Small business (2-50), Mid-market (51-500), Enterprise (500+) or Any size. - **Who you usually reach out to**: The role you target, such as Founder. - **Main pain point you solve**: Required. - **Preferred tone**: Friendly & casual (default), Professional, Direct & to-the-point or Consultative / advisory. - **Existing message to improve (optional)**: Paste a message to refine instead of starting fresh. Click **Generate my outreach script**. It can take 20 to 30 seconds. You get a short **Strategy** and three scripts with different angles, each with a **Copy** button and `{name}` as the merge field. **Regenerate** asks again and **Edit inputs** returns to the form, which is saved on your computer for next time. Paste a script into a campaign or save it under **Scripts** (see [cold outreach](https://wassuply.com/docs/cold-outreach/)). ## How do AI-personalised first messages work? Your provider writes one opener per contact from your prompt and that contact's details, all before sending starts, so you can read samples first. > **Caution:** Generation works in the **New Campaign** wizard on the **Campaigns** screen, where you first pick **Cold Outreach** or **Promotional**, and in the **Review** tab when you edit a draft. Open **Campaigns** from the command palette (**Ctrl+K**, or **Cmd+K** on Mac) or the Dashboard's **Active Campaigns** card. The **Cold Campaigns** and **Broadcast Campaigns** wizards show **AI-personalized** but refuse to launch with it. **How to generate AI-personalised messages** 1. **Choose the type**: In the Script or Message step, choose **Write Message**, then **AI-personalized**. 2. **Write the prompt**: Describe who you are, what you offer and the tone in **AI Prompt / Instructions**. 3. **Turn on research if you want**: Tick **Research each contact's business first** so the model reasons about each business before writing. It uses only the details you imported. 4. **Generate**: On **Review & Launch**, click **Generate Messages**. The first three results are shown; **Regenerate All** rewrites every message. 5. **Launch**: Launch works once every contact has a message. If some fail, the button changes to generate only the remaining ones. The model is told to write 2 to 4 short, non-salesy sentences and not to invent facts. `{name}` in a result is filled in at send time. You cannot send a test message in this mode, and live edit cannot change the text of a running AI campaign. More imported detail gives better messages; see [contacts, lists and segments](https://wassuply.com/docs/contacts-lists-segments/). ## How do Add spintax and Improve work? Both rewrite the text in the message box with your AI key and replace it, so read the result before launching. - **Add spintax**: Wraps 4 to 8 natural phrases in `{a|b|c}` alternatives with 2 or 3 options each. Merge fields such as `{name}` stay outside the braces. - **Improve → Make it shorter**: Two sentences at most, same point. - **Improve → Warmer & friendlier**: A friendlier tone. - **Improve → Less salesy / safer**: Removes salesy and spam-trigger wording. - **Improve → Fix grammar & flow**: Fixes grammar and awkward phrasing. Improve keeps your merge fields and existing spintax. Both buttons work only with **Write message** text; without a key they take you to Settings. The ban-risk badge beside them is a local check that does not use AI. See [templates and spintax](https://wassuply.com/docs/templates-and-spintax/). ## What is sent to the AI provider? Only the text each task needs, sent directly from your computer to the provider you selected; nothing passes through Wassuply's servers. | Feature | What the provider receives | | --- | --- | | AI Consultant | Your form answers and Wassuply's instructions | | AI-personalized | Your prompt plus the contact's name, company, job title, website, notes, custom1 and custom2 when filled in. Never the phone number. | | Add spintax and Improve | The message you wrote, with merge fields still as placeholders | | Verify key & load models | Your key, to list the available models | Your key is kept in Wassuply's settings on your computer and sent only to that provider. The Activity log records when a key is added, changed or removed, never the key. The provider handles the data under its own terms. ## What does AI cost and what are the limits? The AI features are part of Wassuply; you pay your provider for the tokens you use, at its own rates, with no Wassuply markup. - Larger models cost more per message than smaller ones. Check your provider's pricing page. - Generation runs 3 contacts at a time, so large lists take a while. - Errors such as an invalid key, no credit or rate limits are shown, and affected contacts stay without a message until you generate again. - AI does not reply to incoming chats for you. - Warm-up chats are not AI-written: they use built-in chat packs or your own lines. See [warm-up](https://wassuply.com/docs/warmup/). ## Frequently asked questions ### Which AI providers does Wassuply support? Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI) and DeepSeek, each with your own API key. Voice notes use a separate ElevenLabs key. ### Do my contacts go through Wassuply's servers? No. Requests go straight from your computer to your chosen provider. The contact details in a request are sent to that provider, never the phone number. ### Does contact research search the web? No. Research asks the model to think about each business using only the company, website, notes and custom fields you imported. ### Why can't I launch a Cold Campaign with AI-personalized selected? That wizard has no generation step yet, so it blocks launch rather than send empty text. Use the New Campaign wizard on the Campaigns screen and choose Cold Outreach. ### Why does Add spintax send me to Settings? The selected provider has no key. Add one in Settings → AI Consultant and click Save Changes. ### Can I change the model later? Yes. Open Settings → AI Consultant, click Verify key & load models, pick another model and click Save Changes. It applies from the next request. ### Does Wassuply use AI for warm-up? No. Warm-up chats use built-in chat packs or your own lines. Wassuply is independent software. It is not made, endorsed or sponsored by WhatsApp or Meta.
