# How to run a WhatsApp broadcast campaign Source: https://wassuply.com/docs/broadcast-campaigns/ Updated: 2026-10-30 · Wassuply 1.0.4 for Windows and macOS > A Wassuply broadcast campaign sends one message, personalised per contact, to a list of numbers from your own WhatsApp numbers, one message at a time. Build it in four steps (Audience, Message, Accounts, Settings), send it now or schedule it, then follow a send schedule where every wait is decided in advance and can be paused, edited or skipped. In the app: Sidebar → Broadcasts → Broadcast Campaigns ## Key facts - Wassuply broadcasts default to a random 30 to 90 second wait between messages, batches of 10, and a 60 to 300 second pause before each new batch. - Wassuply decides every wait of a broadcast when it is created, duplicated or edited, so the full send schedule is visible before the first message. - A Wassuply broadcast sends one message at a time; selected numbers take turns, and a number at its daily limit is skipped while the others continue. - Before pressing Send, Wassuply checks that the WhatsApp message box holds exactly the message; after two failed tries nothing is sent and the contact is marked failed. - Send now in Wassuply skips only the wait counting down, never a pause, the sending window, blackout hours or a daily limit. ## What is a broadcast campaign in Wassuply? A broadcast campaign sends one message, personalised with merge fields and spintax, to a list of numbers from your connected WhatsApp numbers, with a random wait before each message. It suits offers and updates for people who know you; for new leads use [Cold Campaigns](https://wassuply.com/docs/cold-outreach/). **Broadcasts → Broadcast Campaigns** lists only broadcasts, with tabs for **Running**, **Scheduled**, **Paused**, **Completed** (and **Drafts**, **Failed**, **Stopped** when present) and a search box. Each row shows sent and failed counts, progress and, when scheduled, **Starts in**. Its buttons follow the status: **Send** for a draft, pause and stop while running, **Resume** when paused, plus edit (drafts), duplicate, export, details and delete. > **Tip:** The Dashboard's **Campaigns** shortcut and the command palette (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) open an older **Campaigns** screen listing cold and broadcast campaigns together. Its **New Campaign** wizard asks **Cold Outreach** or **Promotional** and adds a **Launch** review step. Promotional campaigns made there also appear under Broadcast Campaigns. ## How do I create and send a broadcast? Click **New Broadcast** and complete four steps; **Next** stays greyed out until the current step has what it needs. **How to send a WhatsApp broadcast campaign in Wassuply** 1. **Open the wizard**: Go to Broadcasts → Broadcast Campaigns and click **New Broadcast**. 2. **Add the audience**: Use **Upload File**, **From Contacts**, **Segment** or **Paste Numbers**. Each tab adds to the list and skips numbers already in it. 3. **Write the message**: Type it with merge fields and spintax, or pick a saved sequence. Add an attachment or a voice note if needed. 4. **Pick the numbers**: Tick one or more connected numbers. Numbers busy with another campaign, a warm-up or a group job are greyed out. 5. **Check timing and name it**: Review the delays and options, then type a **Broadcast Name** at the bottom of the Settings step. 6. **Send or schedule**: Click **Send Broadcast**, or set **Schedule Launch** and click **Schedule Broadcast**. Wassuply first reports how many numbers are opted out, blacklisted or duplicated; opted-out and blacklisted numbers are skipped when their turn comes. If the broadcast cannot start (a number is busy, say), it is kept as a draft you can start later. > **Tip:** Step 1 shows a **Campaign Name** box, but the broadcast is saved under the **Broadcast Name** from the last step. The wizard keeps your progress if you leave the screen, until you close Wassuply. ## What can I set on each step of the wizard? Only the audience, a message and one number are required; timing defaults come from **Settings → Campaign Defaults**. - **Paste Numbers**: one line each, phone or phone,name,custom1,custom2, 10 to 15 digits with the country code. - **Upload File**: CSV with a phone, mobile or number column (otherwise the first column), plus name, custom1, custom2. More in [Contacts, lists and segments](https://wassuply.com/docs/contacts-lists-segments/). - **Accounts**: only connected numbers can be ticked; click a group to select its connected numbers, or use **All Connected**. - **Use Sequence**: Sends a saved sequence's first step and enrols each contact who receives it, from the same number. See [Sequences and Drip](https://wassuply.com/docs/sequences-and-drip/). - **Message type**: **Write message** or **Voice note** ([voice notes](https://wassuply.com/docs/voice-notes/)). **AI-personalized** is blocked at launch for broadcasts in version 1.0.4. - **Variables**: `{name}`, `{phone}`, `{custom1}`, `{custom2}`, spintax like `{Hi|Hello}`, and **Tracked Link**. See [templates and spintax](https://wassuply.com/docs/templates-and-spintax/). - **Attachment (optional)**: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, MP4, MOV, PDF, DOC or DOCX; the text becomes an optional caption. - **A/B Split Test**: With Variant B text and 2 or more contacts, the first half gets A and the second half B, as two broadcasts ending in [A] and [B]. - **Send Test Message**: Sends to one number now, with Test User, Sample1 and Sample2 in the variables. | Setting | Default | Range in the wizard | | --- | --- | --- | | Batch Size | 10 messages | 1 to 50 | | Message Delay Min / Max | 30 / 90 seconds | 5 to 300 / up to 600 | | Batch Delay Min / Max | 60 / 300 seconds | 10 to 600 / up to 3,600 | | Delivery Rate Alert | Off (20% when on) | 5% to 80% | - **Sending Window**: Hours and days allowed; switching it on fills in 9:00 to 21:00, Monday to Friday. - **Validate WA Numbers Before Sending**: Adds a **Validate WA Numbers** button to the broadcast's page; numbers found not on WhatsApp are skipped. - **Auto Opt-Out Detection**: Saved with the broadcast, but in version 1.0.4 replies are matched against the global keyword list in Settings and no auto-reply is sent. See [opt-outs](https://wassuply.com/docs/opt-outs-and-blacklist/). - **Schedule Launch**: A start time at least one minute ahead. ## How does the send plan work? Wassuply rolls every wait when the broadcast is created, duplicated or edited and stores it with each contact, so the schedule you see is the one the sender follows. - The first message goes out after a 1 to 3 second pause, unless that number sent something moments ago. - Every other contact waits a random time between the message delay min and max, counted from the previous message. - The first contact of each batch gets the longer batch pause instead. Batches count list positions across all numbers. - Numbers take turns, skipping any that is disconnected, at its daily limit or held by [Smart Send protection](https://wassuply.com/docs/health-and-risk/), which can also stretch a wait up to 3 times. The **Send schedule** card on the broadcast's page lists the next 25 contacts (up to 500 with **Show all**) with each wait and estimated send time. Click a wait to set it (0 to 86,400 seconds), use **Re-roll waits** for new ones, or press **Send now** to end the current wait. For each contact, Wassuply opens the chat, checks it belongs to that number, fills the message box and checks it holds exactly the message before pressing Send. > **Caution:** Skipping many waits in a row with **Send now** brings back the regular timing the waits exist to break up. See [sending safety](https://wassuply.com/docs/sending-safety/). ## How do scheduling and sending windows work? A scheduled broadcast is a draft with a start time, and Wassuply checks once a minute whether it is due. - Wassuply must be running. If the time passed while it was closed, the broadcast starts a few seconds after the next launch. - On Windows the close button quits Wassuply unless **Close button hides to tray** is on in [Settings](https://wassuply.com/docs/settings/); on a Mac it keeps running. - If a number is busy at start time, Wassuply tries again each minute. If starting fails with an error 3 times, the broadcast is marked failed. - The sending window uses your computer's clock, excludes the end hour and can run overnight. Outside it, and during [blackout hours](https://wassuply.com/docs/sending-safety/), the broadcast holds and rechecks every minute. ## How do I edit a draft or a running broadcast? A draft can be changed completely; a started broadcast can only change its name, message and timings. - **Edit a draft**: The edit icon or **Edit** opens tabs **Contacts**, **Message**, **Accounts**, **Timing** and **Review**, with a remove button per contact. Finish with **Save**, **Save & start**, or **Save (stays scheduled)**. - **Duplicate**: Copies everything except the start time into a new draft ending in (copy), with fresh waits, and opens it. - **Live edit**: On a running or paused broadcast, **Edit** changes the name, message and five timings from the next message on. Contacts already sent keep what they got. New contacts or timings re-roll the remaining waits, including one counting down. A broadcast that sends a sequence's first step keeps its message once started. To change contacts or numbers after starting, duplicate it. ## What happens when a send fails or a number is banned? The contact is marked failed with the reason and the broadcast moves on; it only holds or pauses when no number can send. | Situation | What Wassuply does | | --- | --- | | Failures reach the Delivery Rate Alert | Pauses after at least 5 attempts in the run and notifies you. | | A number hits its daily limit | The next number takes over; with all capped, it holds until midnight. | | A number disconnects or may be banned | Status is checked every 15 seconds; a possible ban notifies you and that number stops. With none left, it holds until one reconnects. | | Every number held by Smart Send | Pauses until you resume. | | Wassuply closes mid-run | Restarts about 15 seconds after the next launch; a contact cut off mid-send is marked failed, not resent. | - **Pause / Resume**: Pause holds everything, even mid-wait. Resume needs at least one connected number, and none of its numbers busy with other work. - **Stop**: Ends the broadcast. **Re-run N unsent** copies unsent contacts into a new broadcast and starts it. - **Retry / Resend**: Sends to failed or sent contacts again with the same pacing (**Retry N failed** for all). Opted-out numbers are never resent. Stop a broadcast before deleting it. For a banned number, see [ban recovery](https://wassuply.com/docs/ban-recovery/). ## What do the Calendar and Analytics screens show? **Broadcasts → Calendar** places broadcasts on a month grid, and **Broadcasts → Analytics** totals those created in the last 7, 30 or 90 days. - Calendar: each broadcast sits on its scheduled date (or creation date), up to 3 per day, with the month's totals; click one to open it. - Analytics: **Broadcasts**, **Delivered**, **Failed** and **Delivery Rate** cards, a **Daily Messages Sent** chart, and a chart and table per broadcast. Delivered here means sent, not a WhatsApp receipt. - Each broadcast's page: Sent, Failed, Pending, Delivered, Read, Replied, A/B results, a live log and **Export CSV** or **Export PDF**. **Check Receipts** opens up to 200 sent chats per click, on numbers not busy sending, and reads their ticks. For totals across every campaign, see [Dashboard, Today and Analytics](https://wassuply.com/docs/dashboard-and-today/). ## Frequently asked questions ### Do recipients need my number saved to get a broadcast? No. Each message is an ordinary WhatsApp message from one of your numbers. For a single message, use [Send Message](https://wassuply.com/docs/send-message-and-queue/). ### Does adding more numbers make a broadcast finish faster? No. One message goes out at a time and the waits sit between consecutive messages; extra numbers only spread the volume. ### Does Wassuply confirm my messages were delivered? Sent means the message box held exactly your message and Send was pressed. Delivered and read counts come only from **Check Receipts**. ### What is the difference between Pause and Stop? **Resume** continues a paused broadcast where it left off. A stopped broadcast is finished; unsent contacts go out only through **Re-run N unsent**. ### Can I use AI-personalised messages in a broadcast? Not from this wizard in version 1.0.4. The older Campaigns screen's **New Campaign** wizard generates them; see [AI features](https://wassuply.com/docs/ai-features/). ### Why did Variant B of my A/B test not start? A number runs one campaign at a time and both variants share numbers. Sent immediately, B is refused while A runs, so press **Send** on B afterwards; scheduled variants run one after the other.
